QR Code Size Calculator

Find out how large to print your QR code so it scans reliably from the distance people will stand.

Longer content creates a denser code with smaller modules, which needs a bigger print.

Scanning conditions

The 10:1 rule

For a typical short URL, a QR code can be scanned from about ten times its width. A 3 cm code works from about 30 cm, a 30 cm poster code from about 3 m. Dense codes, poor lighting and angled viewing reduce that distance, so the calculator adds a safety margin.

Printing tips

  • Never print a QR code smaller than 2 × 2 cm (0.8 × 0.8 in).
  • Keep a quiet zone of at least four modules around the code.
  • Use SVG or a high-resolution PNG so the edges stay crisp.
  • Shorten long URLs to reduce density and allow smaller prints.
